Tinsmiths owner, Phoebe Clive, is passionate about people and textiles, so visitors receive a friendly welcome and informed, personal service. Tinsmiths' two courtyard showrooms couldn't be more different. Old Tinsmiths, a timber framed building has a traditional draper-shop feel with high-quality cottons and linens sold off the roll for curtains, blinds and upholstery. Phoebe offers a full making-up service from her workroom on the premises.

Adjacent is the new showroom, an unexpectedly modern steel and glass building designed by Phoebe's husband Alex Clive and worth visiting in its own right. It houses a range of contemporary furniture, lighting and homeware.

Tinsmiths is the only provincial stockist of Ian Mankin's fabrics and specialises in "self-patterned" woven rather than printed fabrics. Open 10-5 Tuesday to Saturday, or customers can request fabric samples and make orders here: Tinsmiths Natural Fabrics and Lighting.
